Now, There is No Faith
Now, There is No Faith
Series: Sunday Sermons
NOW THERE IS NO FAITH.
THE SUBSTANCE OF FAITH
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
“Now faith is the substance.”
I. WHAT IS SUBSTANCE?
Substance = Foundation. Confidence. That
which stands under something.
Hope is the picture.
Faith is what holds the picture up.
“You can have hope without faith, but hope
without faith collapses.”
Faith is not emotion.
Faith is not shouting.
Faith is not hype.
Faith is what you stand on when nothing else is
standing.
PERSONAL STORY #1 – “THE SEASON I
COULDN’T SEE IT” THE STREETS
I found myself and my family on the street.
“There was a season in my life when I couldn’t
see how it was going to work out.
“I had hope… but what held me up was faith.”
“Faith wasn’t loud. Faith wasn’t dramatic. It
was waking up every day and saying — ‘God, I
still trust You.’”
“Faith is not proven when everything is
working. Faith is proven when nothing is
moving.”
Tie to:
2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Sight said it won’t work.
Faith said God is still faithful.
 Preaching Line:
“Faith is built on who God is — not what I see.”
II. STORY #1 – ABRAHAM: FAITH BUILT
ON PROMISE
Genesis 12:1 (KJV)
“Get thee out of thy country…”
No map. Just a word.
Abraham left security for uncertainty —
because of a word from God.
Genesis 15:5 (KJV)
“Look now toward heaven… tell the stars…”
God gave him a vision before he gave him a
son.
Faith sees stars while holding emptiness.
Genesis 22:8 (KJV)
“God will provide himself a lamb…”
The promise was on the altar.
But Abraham trusted God’s character.
Romans 4:20-21 (KJV)
“He staggered not…”
Substance of Abraham’s faith:
• Movement without details
• Obedience before results
• Trust in God’s character
Preaching Line:
“Faith climbs mountains without knowing how
it will come down.”
III. STORY #2 – THE WIDOW OF ZAREPHATH
1 Kings 17:12
“A handful of meal…”
This was her last meal.
Faith shows up in lack.
Verse 13
“Fear not…”
Faith always confronts fear.
Verse 15
“And she went and did…”
She acted before the miracle.
Verse 16
“The barrel of meal wasted not…”
Substance of her faith:
• Obedience in scarcity
• Action before provision
• Trust when empty
Preaching Line:
“Faith pours when the jar looks dry.”
PERSONAL STORY #2 – “THE MOMENT
I HAD TO STEP” BUILD BOWFC
“There was a moment in my life when I had to
step out without knowing how it would turn
out.”
“God was asking for obedience before I saw
provision.”
“I didn’t have all the answers. I didn’t have all
the money. I didn’t have all the clarity. But I had
a word.”
“And I stepped.”
“And God met me on the step.”
Then declare:
“Provision doesn’t always meet you at the
couch — it meets you in motion.”
James 2:17 (KJV)
“Faith, if it hath not works, is dead…”
Faith moves.
Faith gives.
Faith obeys.
IV. WHAT IS THE SUBSTANCE OF YOUR
FAITH?
• Is your faith built on feelings?
• Or built on the Word?
• Is it built on circumstances?
• Or built on God’s character?
Isaiah 40:8 (KJV)
“The word of our God shall stand for ever.”
Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith…”
Now faith.
Not later faith.
Not when I see it faith.
Now.
STRONG CLOSING DECLARATION
Abraham had no map.
The widow had no meal.
But both had a word.
And the Word was enough.
Final Line: RESET YOUR FAITH
“Faith is the substance because it rests on the
character of God. And if God said it — I can
stand on it.”
ALTAR CALL MOMENT (Optional Close)
“If you’re in a season where you can’t see it —
but you’re holding on…
If you’re climbing a mountain and don’t see the
ram yet…
If your barrel looks empty…
Come stand. Not because you see it.
But because you believe.
