Good evening, everyone. How are you doing? My name is Samuel Davis, and welcome to another Wednesday night Bible study. Tonight’s lesson is titled "Love Takes Action." That’s right, love goes beyond words—it requires action. It’s not just about saying we love someone or something; it’s about living out that love, especially in our relationship with God.
I’m honored to share this Bible study on behalf of the Band of Warriors for Christ, based out of Houston, Texas. Having been part of this group for years, I’ve come to see it as more than just an organization. It’s a fellowship of men and women who genuinely love God, banding together to minister to others, striving for salvation, and helping each other along the journey toward Heaven. So, before we dive into the Word, let’s begin with a prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for this opportunity to study Your Word. Help us not only to say we love You but to act on that love in everything we do. Guide us as we learn, and may this study be a blessing not just for those listening but for me as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Many of us say we love God. We’ve been baptized in His name, and we’ve turned away from sinful lifestyles. But love doesn’t stop at baptism; it’s an ongoing relationship. We must continually show our love for God through our actions.
Let’s look at John 14:15 (KJV): “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”Jesus is very clear here—if we love Him, we must obey Him. This goes beyond the Ten Commandments. Of course, we shouldn’t kill, steal, or commit adultery because God commanded us not to, but the foundation is love. We avoid these sins not out of fear but because we love God and want to follow His will.
Another scripture to consider is Mark 12:29-30 (KJV): “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
Loving God requires more than emotion; it demands dedication, especially when we’re tired or distracted. Sometimes it’s easier to relax after a long day, but true love for God means we find time to read His Word, pray, and seek His wisdom.
Let’s turn to Luke 6:46 (KJV): “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
It’s easy to say we love Jesus, but are we following through with actions? Do we take time to minister to others, praise God, or even pray for wisdom when we need it? Loving God isn’t just verbal; it’s practical. We must strive to do what God tells us, and that takes real effort.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) tells us: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Presenting ourselves to God isn’t passive; it’s an active choice to serve Him daily. We offer our lives, time, and efforts, showing our love through service and obedience. We don’t sit around waiting for God to bless us; we take action, living for Him and being used by Him.
Our love for others also requires action. It’s not enough to say, “I love you” to those around us. We must show it through our deeds. Mark 12:31 (KJV) says: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Our neighbors aren’t just those who live next door; they are the people we encounter in our daily lives—family, friends, coworkers, even strangers. Love for them must be shown through forgiveness, kindness, and acts of service.
Hebrews 6:10 (KJV) reminds us: “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name.”
Love is labor—it takes effort. Whether it’s cooking for someone, helping a friend in need, or praying for a brother or sister in Christ, God sees and remembers these actions.
James 2:15-16 (KJV) says: “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, ‘Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled’; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”
Love must be more than words. If someone is in need and we do nothing, what good are our words? Faith without works is dead, and love without action is just as empty.
Finally, love isn’t just about this life—it’s about preparing for the next. Luke 13:24 (KJV) tells us to: “Strive to enter in at the strait gate.”Striving to enter heaven takes dedication. It’s not enough to desire heaven; we must take action, live righteously, and keep God’s commandments. Our treasures should be stored in heaven, not on earth (Matthew 6:19-20 KJV). When we set our hearts on eternal things, we show God that we truly love Him.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJV) reminds us not to love the world or the things in it. The world will pass away, but those who do God’s will abide forever. Our love for God must outweigh our love for worldly possessions and pleasures.
In summary, love takes action. It’s more than words or feelings—it’s living out our faith, serving God, and helping others. As we’ve learned through this Bible study, true love for God and others is shown through obedience, service, and sacrifice. Let’s continue striving to love in action, not just in words.
May the peace of Jesus be with you. God bless you, and good night.
