Good evening, and welcome to Band of Warriors for Christ's Warrior Wednesday! Tonight, I’m Jeffrey Gill, and I will be your host as we dive into a Bible study titled "Seek in the Quiet."You may be wondering, what does it mean to seek in the quiet? In today's world, we are surrounded by constant noise in social media, television, and other distractions. Yet, spiritual growth often requires us to step away from this noise and intentionally seek God in stillness. This study aims to explore how quiet time with God can transform our relationship with Him and why it is vital for our spiritual journey.
The inspiration behind this study comes from a recent message by Pastor Lantis, where he emphasized the importance of dedicating time to spiritual pursuits, what he called a "two-hour ministry." Just like professionals spend hours honing their skills, Christians can grow by spending quality time with Jesus each day. This doesn’t happen passively; it requires intentional effort.
Spiritual growth is not about drifting into heaven, as some might think. Just like athletes practice to win championships, our spiritual journey requires effort, persistence, and most importantly, seeking God in the quiet.
Our modern lives are filled with distractions. Whether it’s social media, video games, or even just the daily hustle, we’ve become addicted to noise. But what if we intentionally carved out time from our day to shut out the world and focus on God?
Being in the quiet can feel strange at first. You might not know what to say in prayer, or it may seem uncomfortable to sit in silence. But remember, spiritual growth is a journey. Even if you can only spend ten minutes in prayer today, that’s a start. Over time, as you seek God more, it will become second nature.
As you begin to seek God, you’ll notice that the quiet helps you hear His voice. Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” When you seek God with all your heart, He will answer.
You’ve probably heard that it takes 21 days to form a habit. The same principle applies to seeking God. Start small, read a chapter from the Bible each night before bed. In 21 days, this practice will become a natural part of your routine.
The Bible speaks about seeking 233 times, and most of those references relate to seeking God. This shows how important seeking is for our spiritual well-being. If you don’t seek, you won’t find. Heaven is not something you stumble into; it requires effort.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” The path to heaven is narrow, and few find it because few seek it earnestly.
In Jeremiah 29:13, the Lord says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” This is a call to pursue God with sincerity. It's not about a casual request; it's about pouring out your heart in prayer and seeking His will.
The world today is full of distractions, and seeking God requires intentional effort to cut through the noise. Amos 8:11 warns of a time when there will be a famine—not of food or water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will search for God’s word but will not find it. This is a reminder that we should not take for granted the access we have to God’s word today.
When you seek God in the quiet, you’ll realize that He speaks in a still, small voice. In 1 Kings 19:11-12, the prophet Elijah encountered God not through a powerful wind, earthquake, or fire, but through a quiet whisper. This demonstrates that God often speaks to us in moments of calm and reflection.
1. Set Aside Time Daily: Dedicate a specific part of your day to spend with God. It could be in the morning, before bed, or during a quiet walk.
2. Eliminate Distractions: Turn off the TV, silence your phone, and find a quiet place where you can focus solely on God.
3. Start Small: Don’t worry if you can only manage a few minutes at first. As you seek God regularly, the time will naturally increase.
4. Read Scripture: Begin with reading a chapter from the Bible. Focus on books like Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.
5. Pray: Pour out your heart to God in prayer. Even if it feels awkward at first, God knows your heart and will meet you where you are.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Seeking God comes with rewards—peace, guidance, and spiritual growth.
Psalm 1:1-2 also reminds us of the blessings that come from meditating on God’s word. When we focus on His teachings day and night, we become rooted in His truth.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When we prioritize seeking God and His righteousness, He takes care of our needs.
Seeking God is not just for Sunday mornings or special occasions. It should be a daily practice. As we seek Him, we will find peace, purpose, and strength to face life’s challenges.
The journey of seeking God is ongoing. Even if you’ve been a Christian for years, like me, there are times when life gets in the way, and we neglect our seeking time. But when we get back on track and seek God earnestly, we find that He is always there, waiting to guide us.
If you're new to this, start today. Seek God in the quiet moments of your life, and watch how He transforms your heart and soul.
